Abstract:

Chiefly programs including subscription programs as well as tours, summer festivals, the Ravinia series, the Milwaukee series, special concerts, and recital series such as the Wessels and Voegeli recital series (1912-1925), and the Allied Arts series, begun in 1937 and taken over by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association in 1978 and currently called Symphony Center Presents.

Also includes brochures, press clippings, press releases, newsletters, photographs, and box office records hand-written into ledgers from 1905 to the mid 1980's, showing attendance figures and ticket income for all Orchestra Hall events. Extensive photo and publicity files document activities and appearances of all of the orchestra's music directors, other conductors, composers, orchestra members, guest artists, staff, and trustees, as well as important events, such as receptions, rehearsals, concerts, recording sessions, and tours. Persons represented include Daniel Barenboim, Désiré Defauw, Rafael Kubelík, Jean Martinon, Fritz Reiner, Artur Rodzinski, Sir Georg Solti, Frederick A. Stock, and Theodore Thomas.
