Summary:	Cette étude s'appuie sur les recherches de terrain et les fouilles archéologiques que nous avons menées depuis 2000 dans le cadre de la Mission archéologique française en Mongolie sur la nécropole aristocratique xiongnu de Gol Mod. Celle-ci, située au centre-ouest du pays dans la province de l'Arkhangaï, livre les découvertes les plus importantes réalisées dans le domaine depuis les années 1920. Il s'agit de l'un des plus grands sites du « premier empire des steppes », dont la fondation est attribuée aux Xiongnu. Prospections de terrain, relevés topographiques, géophysiques, enquêtes spécialisées anthropologiques, archéozoologiques et environnementales nous ont permis de réaliser une étude approfondie du fonctionnement de la nécropole et de relier ces données aux informations apportées par le mobilier archéologique dont l'analyse technique, typologique, chronologique et contextuelle constitue l'essentiel du présent mémoire. Cette démarche a permis de caractériser la culture matérielle des Xiongnu et leur rites funéraires, étudiés de manière peu systématique auparavant. La vision globale de la société xiongnu que nous avons mise en lumière montre en particulier son important développement économique et politique entre le Ier s. avant notre ère et le IIe siècle de notre ère. Our research in based on field studies and excavations I have led as a member of the French Archaeological expedition in Mongolia at the Xiongnu aristocratic graveyard in Gol Mod which yields the most important discoveries in Xiongnu archaeology since 1920's. The graveyard situated in western part of central Mongolia in the Arkhangai Province, belongs to the hugest sites of “the first steppe empire”, supposed to be established by the Xiongnu. Topographic and geophysical surveys, anthropological, archaeolozoological and environmental studies allowed to elaborate a throughout research of the graveyard's organization and to match these date with the information brought by the technical, typological, chronological and contextual analysis of the findings which constitutes the core of the present study. This research helped to describe the main features of the Xiongnu material culture and their funerary rites which had not been studied systematically by the past. This global vision of the Xiongnu society shows especially the important economical and political development in 1st century BC - 2nd century AD.  Read more...
