Abstract:

Speech and trip files, correspondence, invitations, subject files, clippings and audio-visual materials documenting Mrs. Mondale's activities as the wife of Vice President Walter Mondale (the nation's second lady) and her role as an advocate for and promoter of the arts in the admininstration of President Jimmy Carter.

Much of the material documents Mrs. Mondale's trips throughout the United States and abroad, including campaign appearances and official visits to other countries as the nation's second lady. There is information about Democratic politics and politicians; the 1976 and 1980 presidential election campaigns; the Vice President's House; Macalester College and other colleges where Mrs. Mondale gave commencment speeches; artists, art exhibitions, and Mrs. Mondale's interest in and support of the arts. Correspondents include her executive assistant, Bess Abell; politicians and politicians' wives; political supporters and campaign workers; artists; and officials of arts organizations.
