Abstract:

Memoirs of a German Jew, born in 1923 in Berlin. After the 1938 "Kristallnacht" pogrom Jacobus and his brother were sent to England. Jacobus was interned in 1941 as enemy alien and shipped to Australia, while his brother was transported with hundreds of immigrants to Canada. After the war Jacobus returned to live in East Germany. In 1993 he finally managed to trace his mother's fate: she was deported in October 1941 and murdered in Lodz.
