Abstract:

A broadside regarding St. John's Church in Jacksonville, Florida. A notation in the handwriting of Miss Louise Richardson, Librarian at Florida State University Library, attached to the broadside reads, "Broadside St. John's Church, Jax. Fla. Lot purchased Oct '59 from O. Norwood. Very rare," and the question mark following the date "1845," pencilled in at the top of the broadside, indicates uncertainty as to when it was printed. From the wording of the Broadside and information given in History of Early Jacksonville, Florida, by Thomas Frederick Davis, it will be seen that the date of printing must have been between 1842 and 1851. No names are mentioned in the broadside, but a good historical sketch about the Episcopal church and those who organized it at Jacksonville was given by Mr. Davis under "Protestant Episcopal," pages 81-84, in his above mentioned book.
