Abstract:
Primarily unpublished recordings of various South Indian classical musicians, recorded from the 1950s-1990s. Artists include Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer, Maharajapuram Santhanam, Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyenger (recorded in Mumbai in the 1950s; he established the current kutcheri pattern), Musiri Subramanya Iyer, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, G.N. Balasubramanyam (recorded in the 1950s), the Alathoor Brothers, M.S. Subbulakshmi, D.K. Pattammal, M.L. Vasanthakumari, D.K. Jayaraman, Madurai Mani, nagaswaram player T.N. Rajaratnam Pillai, and flutist T.R. Mahalingam. The magazine articles by Sankaran are "Taking Music to the People" from The Hindu, a publication from Chennai, and "West Meets East in Concert: Superb Performance by Ravikiran" from the Overseas Tribune, a publication from Washington D.C.
