Typewritten letter reads: "Dear Sirs, Mr. Kipling has asked me to acknowledge your letter of July 6th, and to say, in reply, that he did send the manuscript of his poem, "The thousandth man" to be sold in Paris for the benefit of the Committee for the Protection of Intellectual Jews Persecuted in Germany, the request to do this having come to him from the French Ambassador at the Court of St. James's ... Yours truly, Ch. Nicholson, secretary."
