Abstract:

Abstract: Quality healthcare in hospitals is a serious concern for patients; complications related to medical errors are on the rise. Hospitals are beginning to look at new ways to incorporate quality improvement programs into the hospital culture. Toyota Lean/Rapid Improvement Events address these issues; improved efficiency, reduction in waste, open the way for communication and feedback, and creates a transformational change in culture. This study looks at the tools used in conducting the Toyota Lean/Rapid Improvement Events in a hospital which contribute to the success of quality improvement overall. There were 17 Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs) that were examined. The RIEs were categorized based on the type of improvement being made. The tools used in the RIEs were studied to see if there was a significant percentage improvement in the RIE. A discussion of each RIE, tools used, and the significance in relation to quality improvement is the final outcome.
