Abstract:

As the population ages and obesity rates rise, trainers are getting more and more clients who suffer from chronic illness. In that regard, developing a safe, yet effective, exercise program is critical to decreasing medical costs, as well as for promoting a healthier lifestyle. Training Special Populations: Contraindication for Specific Conditions and Disease provides an overview of the contraindications for training clients with certain conditions and diseases, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, breast cancer, pregnancy, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's disease. This video discusses what factors need to be considered when designing exercise programs for someone with one of the aforementioned condition or diseases.
