Abstract:

Abstract: While organic conductors and semiconductors have been studied for more than a century, they remain less understood than their inorganic counterparts. In this thesis we detail and expand upon an analytic model describing transient photocurrent decay proposed by Twarowski. We apply this model to measurements performed on a series of copper phthalocyanine thin film samples prepared at various substrate temperatures. This analysis reveals a decrease in trap depth with increase in deposition temperature with values ranging from 0.31 ± 0.07 eV for samples prepared near room temperature, to 0.06 ± 0.02 eV for samples prepared near 200°C. The data also confirmed published values for the electronic band gap at 2.1 ± 0.3 eV with a possible deposition temperature dependence, as well as a gap state at 0.65 ± 0.06 eV which we found to behave as a donor. In this text we outline the measurement and evaluation of these and more results, as well as discuss their significance and implications.
