Abstract:
An account by a Dutch Jewish woman (b. 1935) of her investigation of the events that led to the deportation of her mother during World War II, and of her own period in hiding. She learned that her mother, Olga Bock, had borrowed a coat from her sister on which the yellow badge was attached by a pin and not sewed on. This was the reason for her arrest in August 1942 in Amsterdam; in September 1942 she was deported to Auschwitz, where she perished. Erica was sent to various hiding addresses in Amsterdam. In winter 1943 she was sent to the Christian Martha-Foundation in Nieuwersluis, where she stayed until 1954.
