Abstract:

"Uncle Sam and You takes students on a guided tour of what elected officials and everyday citizens do to run America today. Students learn about government on all levels: federal, state, and local. They study American ideals, symbols, and holidays. Students discover what it is like to be a fireman, a police officer, and the president of the United States. They learn respect for their community, state, and country; and they learn about the people who make them work. Throughout the curriculum, students learn that a citizen's rights are what his country owes him and a citizen's responsibilities are what he owes his country. Along the way, they learn the stories of famous and not-so-famous American heroes who have lived out these truths. The Uncle Sam and You Curriculum Package includes Uncle Sam and You Part 1 (first semester) and Part 2 (second semester). Each book contains seventy-five lessons that teach how our country works and how to be a good citizen. The Citizen's Handbook is a collection of primary source documents and short stories related to civics. Each of these full-color hardcover books is richly illustrated with modern and historic photographs and illustrations. Also included is the Uncle Sam and You Answer Key."--Provided by publisher.
