Abstract:

Abstract: Emotional intelligence (EI) has been ranked as a critical characteristic that nurse leaders must possess in order to be successful. Unfortunately, knowledge deficits exist and many nurse leaders are unaware of the concepts and implications of EI and how they can affect their success as leaders. The purpose of this project was to determine baseline knowledge of EI and to measure the effectiveness of an educational inservice. A convenience sample of nurse leaders participated in this project. A pretest was given to the participants to determine baseline knowledge of EI concepts followed by an educational inservice and posttest. There was a statistically significant increase in knowledge following the education. Participants also demonstrated that they wished to increase their knowledge of EI in the future.
