Abstract:

Abstract: The use case diagram is an important part of Unified Modeling Language (UML) which describes the usage requirements for a system in design. Use case diagrams follow a top down approach of defining a system in which the obvious high level functions are present. It acts as a bridge between business level requirements and user level requirements. Since use case diagrams have become an industry de facto standard for preparing several documents at each phase of a software development process namely requirements, design, coding and testing, therefore they are of utmost importance. Writing use case text from raw requirements is easy, but drawing use case diagram from use case text requires some prior training and knowledge. This thesis describes a methodology to automatically generate a use case diagram from use case text. We came up with an algorithm which scans a use case model and tries to build up a database of all use case elements like actors and use cases and their interrelation which is not easy to derive from normal use case text. A tool Use Case Diagram Generator (UCDG) was developed to prove the methodology which takes plain use case text as input and generates a use case diagram as output.
