Abstract:

Abstract: The elderly population in the United States is steadily rising. In 2050, studies show that the number of Americans who are aged 65 years and over will reach approximately 83.7 million. This will result in an increase in healthcare costs due to chronic illnesses and comorbidities associated with the aging process. This paper presents how the utilization of technology can improve access in providing in-home care to the elderly population with the use of a web-based application system. Obtaining in-home care services for the elderly population through a user-friendly app offers fast and readily available service when needed. Providing care at home positively affects the longevity and well-being of the aging population by giving them a greater sense of independence and security. Personal care aides are able to identify, report, and possibly prevent medical emergencies and accidents that are common to the aging population.
