Abstract:
Five different Virginia gazettes were published during the period 1736-1780, sometimes simultaneously. These films contain the following: 1) Virginia gazette (1736-1750) / ed. Wm. Parks; 2) Virginia gazette (1751-1778) / eds. Hunter, Royale, Purdie & Dixon, Dixon & Hunter; 3) Virginia gazette (1766-1776) / eds. Rind, Pinkney (Also known as Rind's Virginia gazette); 4) Virginia gazette (1775-1780) / eds. Purdie, Clarkson & Davis; and 5) Virginia gazette (1779-1780) / eds. Dixon & Nicholson (Moved to Richmond and was published there under the same title, 1780-1781. Films do not contain Richmond issues.) Preface indicates there may have been only three Virginia gazettes by combining together the Gazette (ed. Parks), the Gazette (eds. Hunter, Royale, etc.), and the Gazette (eds. Dixon & Nicolson).
