Abstract:

At the age of 79, Rosemary Smith became the oldest person to drive a Formula 1 race car. She is exceptional, but in recent years, she has become part of a growing trend. According to the U.N., the number of people over the age of 60 is expected to double by 2050. It marks a dramatic shift in population age. Dr. Sanjay Gupta explores aging and longevity from stunning Sardinia to a combined nursing home. We know more than ever about how we age, but we don't fully understand why, or how to age well, as lifespans continue to rise. And as research continues, sometimes in unconventional ways -- like with a group of nuns in Minnesota -- we are slowly starting to unlock the secrets of aging, and aging well.
