Abstract:

Surveys the history of Jews in Creglingen (Württemberg) from the beginning of their settlement there in 1532 until 1938. Pp. 135-151, by Behr, discuss a pogrom which took place on 25 March 1933 in Creglingen, during which Hermann Stern was murdered and several other Jews were injured. Pp. 153-181, also by Behr, describes events between 1933-38. Despite the pogrom, few of the 70 Jewish residents left the town in 1933; but in 1937-38, due to the antisemitic legislation, several families emigrated. After November 1938 the remaining 32 Jews left Creglingen. Among those who stayed in Germany, 16 were deported. Pp. 183-211 report on two local Nazi war criminals: Fritz Klein, the main perpetrator of the pogrom, and Karl Stahl.
