Travelling north by car, David Stanmore makes a fateful stopover at a pub, where a thief steals a woman's handbag and then disappears. The distraught woman tells Stanmore that she had been on a covert mission for her employer to meet his friend in York, who was to give her information on the location of a hidden Nazi hoard of treasure.
