Abstract:

The Whore's Dialogue is the heavily annotated script for the video installation of the same name. As such, the document serves as a parallel performance of the original script text, discussing the philosophical, literary, political and personal roots of the script, its various sources in theory, literature, memoir, and news events, and the artist's intent of the piece as a cultural investigation. Inspired by the characters of the raconteuses in the Marquis de Sade's 120 Days of Sodom and the extinct pornographic literary form of the whore's dialogue, the piece (installed in the Room Gallery at UC Irvine in Spring 2012) is an immersive multi-channel video installation that enacts a ritual of the transmission, through language and the expertise of performance, of sexual knowledge between women.
