Abstract:

Includes letters from R.E. Frierson to his son, W.C. Frierson, relating family and local news and expressing opinions on local and national issues from church problems to Franklin D. Roosevelt's foreign policy.

Four letters,1935-1968, from Dr. H[endrick?] C. De Wet, a fellow Princeton Theological Seminary graduate, lend another minister's viewpoints on international issues; De Wet's letter, 17 Aug. 1958, written from South Africa, speaks of geopolitical situation, including space race, buildup of atomic and hydrogen weapons in Russia and United States, possible Chinese invasion of Formosa [Taiwan], and independent French states in North Africa.

Letter, 29 Apr. 1968, discusses De Wet's views on Holy Land, successful heart transplant by Dr. Christiaan Barnard in Capetown, Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson's failure in Vietnam, race relations, assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., struggle for native independence in South Africa, and withdrawal of invitation to South Africa by the Olympic Games Commission.

Other items include postcard, 15 Mar. 1940, distributed by W.C. Frierson re "new manipulation of the arithmogram '666' in Rev[elations] 13:18," with reference to Adolf Hitler; Vietnam war letter, 25 Mar. 1968, from Westminster native and 1952 Clemson graduate R.R. Simpson; Clemson Agricultural College tuition receipts, 1947-1950, for student John L. Frierson; three undated photographs of W.C. Frierson; and typescript volume, 1934, W.C. Frierson's Ph. D. thesis, "The Purpose of the Apocalypse."
