Hammelmann, Shakespeare's first illustrators, Apollo, supplement "notes on British art" p. 1-4, August 1968). Library holds a single volume only of one of the 1709 issues (ESTC T138294 or T138297). Library's volume consists of leaves N3-2N8 of volume 6, containing Pericles, The London prodigal, Thomas, Lord Cromwell, Sir John Oldcastle, The puritan, A Yorkshire tragedy and Locrine. In volume lettered: Shakespears doubtful plays. Paged continuously. The first edition published after the four folios; the text is based on the fourth folio. Wanting title page. Catalogued from ESTC records. With a general title page in v. 1; each volume with a volume title page; each play with an individual play title page with the imprint: Printed in the year 1709. |
