Abstract:

A collection of correspondence criticizing the plan for the "Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe" as designed by Peter Eisenman and as approved by the German Parliament in 1999. Grosse proposes an alternative idea for a central national Holocaust memorial site. In a plea for tolerance, argues that the memorial should be dedicated to all the victims of World War II, Jews and non-Jews. Furthermore, contends that a memorial which constitutes an artwork is not appropriate for a place of mourning and expresses fear of antisemitic desecrations of the planned site.
