Abstract:

Surveys the history of Jews in Mühlhausen (Thuringia), from the beginning of their settlement there in the 12th century until the Holocaust. Pp. 72-102 discuss the Nazi period, including discrimination and persecution in Mühlhausen before 1938, the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, and emigration. Ca. 40-50 Jewish residents of Mühlhausen were deported between 1940-44 to the Lublin district and from there to various concentration camps; additional residents were deported from other places. Pp. 90-95 relate the fate of "Mischlinge" and partners in mixed marriages, and include an alphabetical list of 59 victims of the Holocaust from Mühlhausen. Describes, also, two labor camps connected to Buchenwald which were situated in Mühlhausen.
