Abstract:

A collection of articles, most of them published previously; some of them are based on papers delivered at Jewish-Christian meetings and conferences. The section "Wobec Polski" [Concerning Poland] (pp. 151-217) deals with the "Jewish problem" as a Polish problem, concentrating on the perseverance of anti-Jewish stereotypes during and after World War II. Presents, as well, the relationship between Jews and communism and present-day antisemitism. "Wobec Zagłady" [Concerning the Shoah] (pp. 219-289) discusses the importance of Auschwitz as a symbol for Jews and Poles, the Carmelite controversy, the crosses in Auschwitz, etc. Surveys, as well, Jewish Holocaust theology. "Wobec dialogu" [Concerning Dialogue] (pp. 291-370) deals with the question whether a real Christian-Jewish dialogue is possible, its possibilities and limitations, and summarizes Catholic-Jewish dialogue in postwar Poland.
